Qualcomm to bring internet access without computers

 TT Bureau

US chipmaker Qualcomm Inc. has pulled the wraps off a new technology enabling people to access internet without a personal computer.

Knighted ‘Kayak PC alternative’, devised especially for the emerging markets, enables people to access internet over an assortment of devices like televisions or monitors via 3G high-speed broadband wireless networks that are becoming increasingly available in the developing countries.

The new technology combines Qualcomm modems and mobile telephone computer chips into a portable gadget ending a need for telephone or cable wire connections to the Internet.

Operational with an Opera software browser, the Kayak device can be connected to a computer mouse and keyboard.
Qualcomm is expected to be testing potential product offerings in Southeast Asia by the onset of next year.
